The holiday season is a time of year when the unique blend of cooler weather, dreamy snowflakes, and winter sports yields a lot of interesting and exciting ideas for memorable dates with that special someone.  Whether you’re interested in hitting the slopes, going a-wassailing, or sipping hot toddies by the fire, there are plenty of ways to show your love and devotion while enjoying the many opportunities for romance that the holidays provide just once a year.  So throw on that reindeer sweater, whip up a batch of hot chocolate, and prepare to win (or renew) the love of your sweetie by engineering a holiday-themed date night.  Here are a few examples of some cool ideas you might want to try.

  1. Get down by the fire.  There’s nothing cozier when it’s snowing and blowing outside than snuggling up on a sheepskin rug by the fireplace for a little carpet picnic.  So pull out all the stops with a nice bottle of wine, an exotic selection of fruits and cheeses, and maybe even some homemade dessert.  You can even throw in a blindfold for a fun game of “name that food”.
  2. Go ice skating.  You’ll skate rings around her heart when you step out on the ice and exhibit your swan-like grace (girls dig that stuff).  And once you’ve had enough of double axels and triple lutzes, take off the skates and head for a warming mug of hot buttered rum.
  3. Go for a dip.  Book a night at a nice local hotel, go out for dinner and drinks, then slip into your swimwear and head down to the heated indoor pool for a leisurely backstroke, followed by some relaxation in the hot tub.  Then head back up to your room to keep the fire stoked.  This date idea works even better if you have a hot tub at home!
  4. Name a winter star.  Go to the International Star Registry website and pick a star that is in the winter sky to name after the one you love.  Then surprise her with a trip to the observatory to point out the bright point of light in the sky that will bear her name now and forever.
  5. Take in the sights (and the lights).  If you don’t have the dough on hand to spring for weekend at the ski resort or purchase a pair of ice skates, why not hop in the car and drive around to look at the lawn displays spread throughout town?  If you live in L.A., you can cruise down to the always lavishly decorated Candy Cane Lane (in Woodland Hills), or if you’re not near SoCal, simply look for the local equivalent in your area.
  6. Hit the slopes.  Work up a sweat (and a little competitive spirit) on the mountain before hitting the showers to warm up.  You can figure out the rest from there.
  7. Create a scrapbook.  Warm the cockles of her heart by giving a gift that’s from your heart.  Present her with a memory book complete with a collection of all your favorite relationship moments.  Don’t have a photo to go with the event?  No problem!  Most craft stores have a scrap-booking section complete with stickers and paper for every occasion.  And be sure to leave a few blank pages for memories yet to be made.
